The Buzz Words: What to say in your report

After writing my previous post, on what you should include when writing your report, I thought it might be helpful to collate a list of "key" words which the Local Authorities will be looking for and which are not derogatory towards the mainstream education system. So here are some great phrases and words to get started with:

  • Our philosophy towards learning is...

  • Progress

  • Development

  • This report is intended to give an illustration

  • To provide simulating learning...

  • A key aim

  • In regards to maintaining...we...

  • We consider

  • We strive to

  • We obserive...

  • We encourage / to encourage

  • To progress his/her knowledge with

  • To take note and discuss

  • Sharing details

  • We supply him/her with...

  • He/She has access to...

  • He/She is fascinated by...

  • His/ Her learning has covered elements of.....

  • To progress his/her literary skills

  • We are utilising...

  • He/She has open access to...

  • We supply...

  • We support...

  • We are aware that gaps in his/her learning may arise and therefore will make the necessary adjustments in order to ensure he progresses in his education

  • Not through individual subject areas but collectively

  • Our highest priority

  • Our approach

  • We are concerned with...

  • To instil a love of...

  • To ensure

  • To thrive

  • To develop

  • A purposeful activity

  • He/She is active in...

  • both in written and oral forms

  • Learning opportunities

Write in the past or present tense, avoid speaking about the future as this could be misinterpreted by the Local Authorities as factual and future plans are very changeable. Stick to what you know to be true!

Your child is awesome now, focus on that. Everything is a learning experience so all the amazing things your child is doing is learning and developing.
